For several years Featured has asked experts questions and featured their answers in articles. Featuring these 4-8 sentence answers have been valuable for experts to increase their exposure online with a minimal time investment, while providing publishers with expertise for articles.
However, sometimes experts want to share their knowledge in more detail. That’s why we decided to launch Bylined Articles.
Bylined Articles allow experts to author full-length articles and pitch them to publishers for consideration.
Here’s how Bylined Articles work:
- Experts write an article in a Google Doc and upload to Featured.
- Featured analyzes the article contents, and suggests publishers to pitch.
- The Expert can select up to 5 publishers to pitch.
- A Publisher can “claim” the article (so that the content is unique to their site). If a Publisher claims the article, they have to either publish the article or add an estimated publication date before the article can be claimed by another Publisher.
- Publisher publishes the article, and Expert is notified that their article has been published.

How do I opt-in to receive Bylined Articles as a Publisher?

- Sign up for Featured and go to Bylined Articles.
- Enter your request.
- When you have a new article pitch, you’ll receive an email and the article will appear on your dashboard to “claim” as well.
How do I submit a Bylined Article as an Expert?
Currently, Bylined Articles is in beta and is only available as part of Featured’s “Business” plan for Experts. Bylined Articles can also be accessed by using credits. To learn more about Featured’s Business plan, please review our pricing page.
How do I “claim” a Bylined Article as a Publisher?
A Publisher can “claim” the article (so that the content is unique to their site). If a Publisher claims the article, they have to either publish the article or add an estimated publication date before the article can be claimed by another Publisher. If they do not publish the article or add an estimated publication date, then the article will be made available to other Publishers to claim.
What are the chances that an article will be claimed by a Publisher?
We typically see a high success rate of an article pitch resulting in publication, depending on the publication. Featured reviews every article for quality before it is pitched to a Publisher, and uses AI to effectively match articles with relevant Publishers. Through this process, we ensure that most articles submitted will be featured.
Will I get a byline or link for the article?
Every publisher is different and has their own set of editorial guidelines. In most cases, publishers will attribute an expert by creating an author profile or including a byline on the article. Oftentimes, these bylines may include a link to a social media profile page, company website, or both. However, publishers have full editorial discretion as to how they attribute authors, and are not required to include links of any kind within attribution.
To help set proper expectations for experts, Featured does try to disclose how a Publisher may attribute an expert in an article when an expert can select which publications to pitch.
Please note that you cannot buy an article placement or links through Featured.com.
How often can I submit a Bylined Article?
Experts are able to submit one Bylined Article per profile when the article is in the “In Review” process.
Please allow up to ten business days for the Featured team to review the article. You can track the submission status using the track my article dashboard, and you’ll be able to submit your next article once the article has either been selected for publication or not selected for publication.
