One of my favorite family recipes has to be Cyprus-style moussaka. It's a traditional dish from Cyprus, where much of my family is from, that has been in our collective recipe book for generations now. No surprise then that the Cyprus version of this classic Greek eggplant and ground beef bake is what I most fondly associate with home cooking and comfort food.
My mom's version was always homemade, so it was well worth the effort, letting the flavors really sink into the vegetables before baking them in a delicious cream sauce. We would layer potatoes thickly on top of a generous helping of eggplant, beef, and spices before pouring over just-right tomato sauce made especially for moussaka. Growing up with Cyprus-style moussaka will make me cherish it forever!
Mug cake is my favorite recipe because it is quick, easy, and fun to make. All you need is a mug, some basic ingredients, and a microwave. And the best part? It's ready in just a few minutes. Duck With Stuffing
Duck with stuffing is my special family dish, served every time for Christmas and other occasions or celebrations. This recipe is not about the duck itself but what's inside. The central part of the stuffing that gives the whole filling its unique flavor is the juice squeezed from a fresh orange, fresh-sliced plums, and walnuts. Besides, the recipe covers adding fresh breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, and minced meat (also from duck). The duck prepared this way should be spread with peanut butter and put in the oven
But what makes this recipe unique is the necessity of preparing the dish together. At least four family members gather to prepare the duck, which will then be eaten in an even larger group. It's not just about helping to prepare the dish but celebrating together even before the festive dinner.
Boiled salmon is a rare delicacy that spans generations in my family. The recipe comprises freshly-fished Sockeye salmon boiled in an open fire with salt. The boiling is undertaken in just under two hours. The dish is served hot with a traditional serving of mashed potatoes and freshly-made tomato sauce. - cherry tomatoes (500 g)
- 3 zucchinis
- prawns (500 g)
- a few dried tomatoes
- a glass of dry white wine
- salt, pepper, chili flakes, garlic
- frozen butter
- pasta (e.g., pappardelle)
You'll use a frying pan and a big pot simultaneously.
1. Chop zucchini and tomatoes. Use some oil from dried tomatoes and glaze the vegetables on the frying pan (5-7 minutes). Once finished, put them in the pot. Stir.
2. Chop dried tomatoes. Add them and 3 minced garlic cloves to the pot.
3. Fry the prawns. Put them in the pot. Add wine, salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Cook it for 15 minutes (might be longer, control the food's consistency).
Pork Shoulder Roast
As a pitmaster, I have spent decades perfecting my craft and learning the ins and outs of BBQ. I have always had a passion for cooking and grilling, and I feel lucky to have been able to turn that passion into a career.
One of my favorite family recipes is a simple yet incredibly flavorful pork shoulder roast. To prepare this dish, I first coat the pork in a mixture of paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and brown sugar

In either case, this will become your new go-to recipe for homemade mac and cheese! The ideal, speedy supper is homemade mac and cheese with ham and peas; it is always creamy and never gritty. Begin with ground beef. It should not be too lean – a dry meatball is a sad meatball – season with pepper, garlic, onions, and celery salt to taste. Then you add uncooked "minute" rice, which you mix into the meat by hand. Real rice will not work in this. The meatballs are cooked for a long time in a sauce made mostly of tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce until they fall apart soft, scalding hot in the middle, and with an alarming orange hue.
It's not a difficult dish, but it's filling and comforting. Guests are frequently skeptical of this unusual rice combination but most eventually warm up to it.
Duck Chicken Pot Pie
This is an old family recipe and it is my favorite. Prepare stock with cut-up chicken, carrots, celery, and onions. After 30 minutes of cooking, remove the chicken, separate the meat from the bones, return the bones to the stock, and cook for another 2 hours.
Return the stock to the pot and add chopped carrots, onions, celery, and rutabaga. Cook until the vegetables are well done. Prepare pot pie dough with eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper while cooking.
Allow it to rest for 15 minutes before rolling it out to about an inch thin and cutting it into 1-inch squares.
When the vegetables are well done, season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix in the parsley and thyme. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes after adding the dough squares. Chicken bouillon can be used to fortify the stock. I like mine served in a bowl of soup with fresh bread and apple butter on the side.
A 15-minute White Chocolate Mousse
A white chocolate mousse that takes about 15 minutes to make for anyone who has a hand mixer. There are only five ingredients: white chocolate chips, vanilla extract, cream cheese, whipping cream, and powdered sugar.
All you need to do is beat ½ cup of the whipping cream in a bowl until you see stiff peaks starting to appear. Then you microwave ½ cup of the white chocolate chips in a separate bowl for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they're melted.
Next, in a medium bowl, beat 4 ounces of cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of the powdered sugar. Once that becomes fluffy, you add the white chocolate and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Combine the whipped cream with it by folding, and it's complete. Just toss it in the fridge to chill first.
