Staying Open to Learning Means I Can’t Be a 10

I would rate myself as a 9/10 on the scale of digital marketing knowledge. I have worked in the field for several years and have earned phenomenal results that are a testament to my expertise. I’m confident I am up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends and can troubleshoot any issue.

I stay open to learning new ways to maximize marketing plans, which is why I wouldn’t give myself a full 10. I’ll always strive to further my understanding and learn more about the tools available for successful digital marketing campaigns.

6 or 7 – Have Basic Knowledge but Confident

I would rate myself at around a 6 or 7. I have some basic knowledge of key digital marketing concepts, such as SEO, PPC, email marketing, and content creation. However, I’m constantly learning and striving to increase my knowledge by reading industry reports and blogs, attending webinars, and participating in online courses.

I’m not an expert yet, but I’m confident that my knowledge of digital marketing will continue to improve as I stay up to date with the latest best practices and industry trends.

5 – as There’s Room to Grow

I’d rate myself a 5 out of 10 regarding my digital marketing knowledge. I have a good understanding of the basics like SEO, PPC, content marketing, and web analytics, but there’s still so much more I need to learn. Trends change all the time, and technology advances, so I’m constantly trying to stay ahead of the game by researching new techniques and strategies.

All in all, I’m comfortable with my current knowledge level, but there’s definitely room to grow and improve. That’s why I always aim to continually update my knowledge and skills to ensure I’m up-to-date with the latest digital marketing trends.

6 – On Par with the Average, but Behind the Greats

Today, I’m thinking of a six.

I’ve been in digital marketing and design for two decades, started my social network with a global audience, owned an 8-year web design studio, been a digital marketing director for a multimillion-dollar company solely responsible for directing teams of internet specialists overseeing six-figure monthly internet marketing budgets (not including personnel), and am now the executive director of a consultancy to deliver $100 million in value from the web.

Point-for-point, my skill is on par with that of competent digital marketers, but a long way behind the greats. (Yet, few people manage million-dollar budgets and regularly create 3-10 times return on investment.)

Yet I’m still nowhere near the summit. It makes me hungry.

Strong 8 – and Improving Every Day

I would rate myself an 8 in terms of digital marketing knowledge. As an experienced professional photographer, I understand the importance of having a strong digital presence.

Over the past decade, I have had to constantly adapt my ways of promoting and marketing my business online. I’m always learning new trends, testing what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly, giving my audience content that is useful and consistent.

For example, when I started using social media for my business – something that was brand new to me at the time—I could create successful campaigns that not only drove engagement but also sales. Through trial and error, I learned what posts resonated best with my followers on each platform. This experience has allowed me to stay on top of the latest digital strategies with confidence.

6 – Lots of Good Ideas, Not Always Practical

In my practice, I aim to help people become the healthiest versions of themselves through chiropractic and several other treatment modalities. With owning a business comes the responsibility of digital marketing.

Studying to become a chiropractor doesn’t prepare you for the realities of owning and running your own business. Having been in practice for several years now, I’d rate my digital marketing knowledge a 6 out of 10.

I’d say I’m above average, but I still need the help of my marketing team to take my ideas and refine them. Watching courses and understanding software like Canva has been helpful.

I’ve had ideas that have turned into good marketing campaigns, and I’ve also had ideas that had to be completely scrapped because the message was unclear. I’m definitely still learning digital marketing and how to craft campaigns that are simple and effective.

8.5 – Always Something New, but Worked on Many Projects

The world of digital marketing is always expanding. There’s always something new every day, and that’s the beauty of this industry. I’ve worked on many projects for years and have confidence in managing multiple campaigns in multiple niches, including travel and luxury brands. Each project has given me confidence in taking on even larger projects. However, I also believe that there are still hundreds of things I could learn to get that extra 1.5 points.

8 – After Attending Webinars and Reading Countless Articles

When I first started working in digital marketing, I would have rated myself a 5 out of 10 in terms of knowledge. While I had a basic understanding of SEO, social media marketing, and email marketing, I still had a lot to learn about analytics, PPC, and content marketing.

Over time, I took courses, attended webinars, and read countless articles to expand my knowledge. As a result, I would now rate myself an 8 out of 10. I have a solid understanding of various digital marketing channels, tactics, and tools, and I can apply this knowledge to help businesses achieve their goals.

However, I also recognize that there is always room for improvement. Digital marketing is a constantly evolving field, and there are always new trends and technologies emerging. Therefore, I make it a priority to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and continue to learn and grow my skills.

9 – The Environment is Changing, the Discipline Not

Since the digital marketing industry is in a rapidly changing environment, reflection is essential. I would give myself a 9 exactly because external factors influence the field, and being constantly fully prepared is idealistic.

However, data analytics skills, social media, and trends knowledge, along with algorithms knowledge, are always crucial. Our efforts in these aspects and our constant pursuit of growth within them will always bring us closer to a 10.

9 – but Striving for 10

I’d rate myself a 9. I’ve spent years building domain expertise and turning that into significant results for my customers. But there’s no way I’m a 10. That implies I know everything there is to know about digital marketing.

And there’s no way that’s the case or could ever be the case. The world of digital marketing is constantly evolving. There’s always more to learn, and I’m out there every day soaking up more knowledge and turning it into results for my clients.
