This interview is with Terri Ferree, Founder & Wedding Planner, TMF Events.
For readers on Featured, could you introduce yourself, your role at TMF Events, and the kinds of weddings and special events you plan?
I’m Terri Ferree, founder and head wedding planner at TMF Events. As a luxury wedding planner based in Orange County, California, TMF Events provides full-service planning and day-of coordination services for weddings and special events throughout Southern California and destinations.
Backed by an expert event planning team, I specialize in curating an event that matches my clients’ design aesthetic, keeping everything on track, and making the planning process as easy as possible so my clients can focus on enjoying every moment of their big day.
How did you get into wedding planning and event coordination?
I’ve always been passionate about event planning, especially weddings, and I am excited to be running my own business now. With over a decade of experience leading corporate marketing and event teams prior to starting TMF Events, I bring a wealth of professionalism, organization, and industry contacts to every event that I plan. My background is something that sets me apart from most wedding planners out there, and I attribute my success to it.
You’ve said you start by asking couples about their dream wedding; how do you translate that vision into a clear plan and decision-making framework?
It’s important to know what my client envisions their wedding to be like, and then it’s essential to understand what they plan to invest so I can determine how we’ll achieve what they’re looking for. At TMF Events, we have a standard process to keep the planning process on track and avoid clients getting overwhelmed.
We put together a full planning timeline with to-do lists for each month, set up regular check-ins, and track action items. When it comes to keeping the event on budget, we create a line item budget and provide vendor options within our client’s budget. That way, our clients can make clear decisions about where to invest.
To keep stress low for the couple and wedding party, which bridal services or day-of supports do you prioritize?
I definitely recommend at least having two day-of coordinators. There are so many moving pieces, questions, and emergencies that pop up on a wedding day, and the last thing a bride wants is to have to deal with any of that themselves. That’s where the team at TMF Events steps in.
Our goal is to make sure the couple does not even know about any issues that arise. That’s what we’re here for: to handle anything that comes up so the couple can be present and enjoy their wedding day.
After venue selection, how do you assess the value of a vendor proposal beyond price to ensure the best fit?
This is an important reason to have an experienced wedding planner like the team at TMF Events. Every vendor proposal is different and cannot be compared directly. A lower total quote does not necessarily mean you’re getting the service you need for the best price. At TMF Events, we review every proposal, ensure all the right pieces are accounted for, and provide clarity on what our client is receiving for the quoted price.
As the day approaches, what does your event-week command plan look like to keep vendors, timelines, and communications aligned?
Wedding production and coordination isn’t a one-day or even one-week job. At TMF Events, our “day-of coordination” package really includes support the entire month prior to the wedding. I always create a detailed schedule of events, confirm arrival times of vendors, and confirm locations one month and one week prior to the wedding.
