Alan Turing
Alan Turing is my role model for a variety of reasons. He could use his extensive knowledge and intelligence to break codes during World War II, helping to save countless lives, and his work laid the groundwork for modern computer science. His life also showed how important it is to keep pushing boundaries even in the face of adversity, as he continued to contribute to his field despite significant personal struggles.
Beyond this, Alan Turing’s accomplishments are inspiring because of their incredibly far-reaching implications, which range from deciphering a code that once seemed impossible and advancing computer science to saving millions of people and inspiring innovation even after his death. He serves as a great example of what you can achieve when you put your mind to something and never give up.

My Grandmother
My role model is my grandmother. She overcame a variety of challenges in her life, and she always stayed positive and kept going despite whatever obstacles came her way.
She was a single mother who worked hard to support her children, while still making time for them when they needed her. She was generous with her time, energy, and resources and was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone needed it.
I admire her resilience, courage, and selflessness. Her strength inspires me every day to be the best that I can be.

Malala Yousafzai
Malala is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. She has dedicated her life to promoting education for girls and advocating for women’s rights.
Malala’s passion and determination are truly inspiring. Despite facing immense adversity, including being shot in the head by the Taliban, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to education and gender equality. She has used her platform to raise awareness of these issues and has become a powerful voice for change.
What I admire most about Malala is her courage. Despite facing death threats and intimidation, she has continued to speak out and fight for what she believes in. She has also shown incredible forgiveness and empathy towards those who have opposed her, which is a testament to her strength of character.

Mary Pratt
Mary Pratt is an artist whom I deeply admire and consider a role model, particularly as a fellow Canadian artist. As someone who creates detailed autobiographical work, much like Mary, I draw inspiration from her dedication to perfecting her craft and meticulous attention to detail. Through her lifelong commitment to painting, she became a master of photorealism, a style that requires tremendous skill and patience.
Beyond her artistic achievements, I am also inspired by Mary Pratt’s engagement with her community. As an active member of various organizations, she used her talents and influence to make a positive impact. Her example serves as a reminder to me that, as artists, we have the power to give back and use our platform for good.

My Mom
My role model my entire life has always been my Mom. She is the person I trust the most to give me solid, unbiased, and truthful advice and she is one of the toughest people I know, overcoming adversities most could never understand. Most of all, she is humble.
My Mom went from a bank teller to a Hazmat-trained firefighter for Argonne National Laboratories and later got her nursing degree, joined the military at age 45 to be on the front lines helping after September 11th, and all while raising my brother and me on her own.
My father was around, but he was angry, so he made her life more difficult than it had to be, yet she continued to move forward. She has grit and grace. The best part is she isn’t untouchable like a celebrity or a famous leader. I can ask her for advice any day, any time.

Elon Musk
Elon Musk is likely not the most original answer on the list, but there are good reasons for this. There are plenty of smart and rich people who just stop working at a certain point.
Elon has expert knowledge about the world from years of working and puts this knowledge to use in things that he believes make the world a better place. For example, before Tesla, most people and car companies did not take electric cars seriously.
However, Elon risked half of his net worth and many years of his time to make this happen, because fossil fuel cars are not sustainable. Even now, he could drink cocktails on a beach, but he keeps working because of the positive differences he can make for the public.
